Chip Capacitor/Electrolytic Capacitor/Ceramic Capacitor SupplierCeramic capacitorThe meaning of temperature coefficient codes is a common problem, as these codes represent the variation of capacitance values with temperature within a certain range. To understand these codes, you must first know the standards and classification of the code. These codes are mainly divided into International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Electronic Industries Association (EIA) standards. Below are two different levels of classification and definitions.
For an understanding of the classification of temperature levels, you can refer to the detailed parameters of temperature coefficients.
According to Class I EIA-RS-1988 standard
Class I IEC/EN 60384-8/21 and EIA-RS-1988
According to the table above, it can be seen that the drift of both "NP0" and "C0G" capacitors is 0, with a tolerance of ± 30 ppm/K; One "N1500" capacitor and "P3K"capacitanceThe drift is all 1500 ppm/K, with a maximum tolerance of ± 250 ppm/° C.
Please note that the capacitance codes in IEC and EIA standards are industrial capacitance codes, which are different from military capacitance codes.
Class II level refers to EIA RS-1988 standard
For example, a capacitor with code Z5U has a working temperature range of 10 ° C to 85 ° C, with a tolerance of 22% to 56%; The operating temperature of an X7R capacitor is 55 ° C to 125 ° C, with a tolerance of ± 15%.
The following are some common operating temperature and tolerance parameters for Class II:
X8R (55/150, Δ C/C0=± 15%)
X7R (55/125 ° C, Δ C/C0=± 15%)
X6R (55/105 ° C, Δ C/C0=± 15%)
X5R (55/85 ° C, Δ C/C0=± 15%)
X7S (55/125, Δ C/C0=± 22%)
Z5U (10/85 ° C, Δ C/C0=22/56%)
Y5V (30/85 ° C, Δ C/C0=22/82%)
Class II according to IEC/EN 60384-9/22 standard
In some cases, the EIA code can correspond to the IEC/EN code, and there may be slight changes, but it is generally acceptable. Here are some useful examples:
X7R and 2X1 related
Z5U is related to 2E6
Y5V is similar to 2F4; Difference: Y5V( Δ C/C0=30/80%), 2F4( Δ C/C0=30/80%)
X7S is similar to 2C1; Difference: X7S( Δ C/C0=± 20%), 2C1( Δ C/C0=± 22%)
The X8R does not have a similar IEC/EN code.
